Articulate Rise

This Learning Object was created in Articulate Rise as a piece of the adult learning program, Operation: Healing Freedom. Supporting the homeless and at-risk Veteran population served by Veterans Leadership Program, this program is a 6-month learning course aimed at providing Veterans positive coping skills based on the creative arts.

Goals

The goal of this program is to expose this Veteran population to healthy coping mechanisms as a positive solution and to encourage possible continued exploration after the program ends.

Objectives

Learners will:

  • utilize the creative process to explore self-expression

  • discover and develop new coping skills for increase emotional and mental wellness

  • decrease symptoms of stress and/or trauma by a minimum of one numerical level on a scale of 1-5

The modules created in Articulate Rise for this lesson center on photography.

  • Veterans will explore what is photography and be introduced to basic photography terms/vocabulary.

  • Formative assessments (Knowledge Checks) appear after each module's lesson to guide learning and check for understanding.

  • A guest instructor is also introduced in a module to familiarize Veteran participants with his biography.

  • A video describing his career and tasks as a Combat Cameraman (ComCam) is also linked.

  • Finally, a summative assessment is included after all lessons for Veterans to return to after guest instruction and hands-on learning and exploration taking photographs.
